Before it escalates

• Use a calm, neutral tone and slow your pace.
• Give one clear direction at a time; wait before repeating.
• Offer a choice when possible (e.g., “You can sit here or take a break and come back”).
• Validate the feeling without agreeing with the behavior: “I see you’re upset.”

When the student is escalated

• Lower your voice; avoid arguing or correcting in the moment.
• Give space: step back, reduce eye contact if it’s triggering.
• Offer a break or a calm-down option (break card, calm corner, walk with a pass).
• Avoid power struggles — don’t insist on an apology or compliance right then.

After the incident

• When the student is calm, briefly name what happened and what they can do next time.
• Re-enter the routine without long lectures.
• Log the incident and any follow-up here so the team stays updated.
