You will design, build, and launch a small rocket (paper, straw, or model). You will collect data and explain what happened using math and science words.

🎯 What You’ll Do Student version

  • β€’Launch your rocket at least 5 times and measure how far it goes each time.
  • β€’Look at your measurements and decide which launch was the best and why.
  • β€’Use words like push, thrust, gravity, and air to explain what helped or hurt your rocket.

  1. Step 1
    Plan. Choose your rocket type (paper straw rocket, paper airplane, or model). Draw a quick picture of what it will look like.
  2. Step 2
    Build. Cut and tape your rocket carefully. Check that the nose is pointed and the fins are even.
  3. Step 3
    Launch & measure. With your teacher, launch your rocket 5 times. Use cones, tape, or a meter stick to measure the distance.
  4. Step 4
    Think. Circle the longest distance and the shortest distance. Did changing anything (angle, strength, fins) make it go farther?
  5. Step 5
    Explain. Finish this sentence in your own words:
    β€œMy rocket went farther when ______ because ______.”
